Odds and Ends, by Frank Wedge

Frank E. White, Jr. #L-312, Valley Center, Kansas recently received his 100,000 Mile Badge for riding eight Moto Guzzis for a total of 108,200 miles. Frank is a longtime member of the MGNOC and at one time was on the MGNOC staff as a Staff Writer.

Most of the mileage (74,400 miles) was put on his 1985 California II. Other models listed were a 1984 CAII, 1983 SP1000, 1972 Eldorado, 1984 V65SP, 1979 G5 LAPD, 1980/81 V-50 and a rare 1984 650TT.

To receive your 100,000 Mile Badge (free), send me (Frank) a large SASE and I'll send you the 100,000 Mile application. Fill out the app and I'll send you your large and colorful badge.

I've been asked by Randy and Judy Dawes, Northern California MGNOC Reps, to let members know next year's national will take place during the second half of July, in Grass Valley, California. As soon as we know the exact dates we'll pass this information onto you.

Please include your membership number when you contact me about your membership or when you're trying to sell your Guzzi stuff. And PLEASE WRITE so I can read what you're selling. If I can't understand mom, I will leave that part out. And if you don't start providing your last name (you know how forgetful I am!), and your city and state I'm not going to print your ads. It takes time to look this stuff up and try to read your lousy hand writing. You know the old saying about helping one's self. If you don't care - why should I? You're loving son, Frank

Glenn Kimble went to the VA Hospital recently in San Antonio to undergo radiation treatments. He's doing well now and looking good, but I'm sure he and his dog ("Peanuts") would appreciate a card or note from members and friends. His address is: P.O. Box 751, Llano, Texas 78643.

THANKS to Louisiana MGNOC Rep, William Griffith for his email telling me about Glenn's situation.

Long time MGNOC member Steve Lingg has taken over the rep position in Nebraska. Previous Nebraska rep George Olson put in a good word for Steve (not that anyone needed to do that).

Steve Lingg's grandfather Warren Lingg printed the first couple of years of the club newsletters in the early days and Warren and his wife lulu were members for many years. So I guess it was destined that Steve eventually became a staff member.

For Steve's address, phone and email information, please look on page 2 of any newsletter. Welcome aboard Steve.

This year's Florida rally has a new location. The owners of the camp grounds that we've been using sold the property and we weren't able to continue the rally at that site. Check out the rally ad in this same issue for current information.

Virginia State Rep, Ron Komoroski wrote the following: "Moto Guzzi North America will attend the national rally in force. Guzzis will be available for demo rides. It will be a chance for folks that were unable to attend MGNA's Guzzi Day 2000 to meet the people who bring our Guzzis to the USA.

Sidney Conn will be bring his magnificent Guzzi hot air balloon to the rally from North Carolina. Hopefully the wind will give us a break and he'll be able to safely fly it higher than at Guzzi Day 2000.

We will have a band Saturday night with dancing and having too much fun will be encouraged!

The Buena Vista community swimming pool located in the city park will be open to rally-goers at a special price of $1.50.

Camping sites with hook-ups for RVs will be available in the park, but not in the rally central area. There are foot trails up and down the mountain between the RV and rally areas, or ride your bike.

The rally price for an RV site with hook-up will be $12 per night.

Also, there will be a guided National Forest fire road ride for dual-sport bikes."

Bonnie Hackes and George Olson became our Nebraska state reps in 1985. They have been very active staff members over these past 15 years. They were involved in raising money through donations to bring a couple from Poland to the United States to attend the MGNOC national.

I remember George and Bonnie's two 1984 V65SP Guzzis and their CAII/sidecar rig and various other machines.

But they asked to step down from their position. In fact George suggested the Nebraska job be passed on to our friend Steve Lingg (mentioned earlier in this same article).

So thanks Bonnie and George for the many years of service and thanks for being a friend for all these years. I hope to see you (as always) at various Guzzi gatherings in the coming years.
